Wellness Testing & Diagnostic Blood Work

Our In-House Lab Helps to Provide a
Rapid Diagnosis of your Pet’s Illness.

The Cat & Dog Clinic’s on-site laboratory is equipped with the latest laboratory testing equipment. When your pet is sick, we are capable of processing multiple laboratory tests within minutes, resulting in fast and accurate treatment for your pet. And for complex cases, we can utilize the services of outside laboratories.

Wellness testing every year is a vital
component of measuring and maintaining
the health of your pet.

BLOOD PRESSURE (BP): This allows us to check for hypertension. Hypertension may be a primary disease or may be secondary to diseases such as hyperthyroidism or kidney disease.

BLOOD PROFILE: This important series of tests checks for internal organ health. The tests help determine if your pet has liver disease, gall bladder disease, kidney disease, diabetes, inflammatory disease, elevated blood protein levels or electrolyte imbalances.

COMPLETE BLOOD COUNT (CBC): This measures the red blood cell and white blood cell numbers and size in the blood. The CBC checks for anemia, dehydration, infection, inflammation and certain types of cancer.

THYROID TEST (T4): This test checks for hyperthyroidism, which is one of the three most common diseases in cats five years of age and older. The T4 helps determine if your pet is showing any signs of an over-active thyroid gland (called Hyperthyroidism), a very common disease in older cats.

COMPLETE URINALYSIS (UA):
This series of tests checks for overall kidney function, urinary bladder health, urinary tract infection, urinary tract inflammation, urinary crystals, and diabetes.

Your pet can't tell us what's wrong and sometimes, a physical examination does not provide a full diagnostic picture. In these cases, blood tests and as well as other laboratory tests are used to diagnose your pet’s condition and develop an appropriate treatment plan.

ELECTROCARDIOGRAM (EKG):
Running an EKG on your pet allows us to check for heart disease caused by such diseases as hyperthyroidism, heartworm disease and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

FELINE LEUKEMIA (FeLV) and FELINE IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS (FIV) Test: This combo test reveals if your cat has contracted either of the two viruses. It is important to know your cat’s status with these viruses as they are highly contagious and can spread easily. Just like humans, awareness and protection are vital.

FECAL EXAM: This test checks for the presence of intestinal parasites such as roundworms, hookworms, coccidian, and tapeworms. We also have a special test to detect the presence of giardia. Some intestinal parasites can also spread from animals to humans and cause severe disease, thus checking for parasites is critical to your's and your pet's health.

HEARTWORM DISEASE TEST (HWD): This test will determine if your pet has been exposed to heartworm disease. A cat or dog can become infected by being bitten by an infected mosquito.
