Spay & Neuter Surgeries + Microchipping

Spay Surgery
Veterinarians call the spay surgery an ovariohysterectomy, which means the removal of the ovaries and the uterus from a female puppy or kitten. Puppies and kittens can become pregnant as early as 6 months of age – so it is very important to have your pet spayed before this age. Here are some reasons to spay your pet:

  • Prevents your pet from going into heat.
  • Prevents your pet from getting pregnant.
  • It makes your pet more gentle and affectionate.
  • Prevents urinating outside the litter box or marking indoors and other unwanted behaviors that naturally occur during heat cycles.
  • It may help prevent your pet from getting breast cancer later in life.
  • Prevents your pet from getting an infection in the uterus later in life.
  • Prevents cancer of the uterus or ovaries.

Neuter Surgery
Veterinarians call the neuter surgery an orchiectomy or castration, which means removal of the testicles from a male puppy or kitten. Puppies and kittens can begin marking and reproducing as early as 6 months old, so it is very important that you have your pet neutered before this age. Here are some reasons to neuter your pet:

  • Prevents your pet from getting a female pregnant.
  • It will keep your pet from roaming, and getting into fights or looking for females.
  • It often makes your pet more gentle and affectionate.
  • Prevents dogs from getting cancer of the testicles and/or prostate gland later in life.
  • It helps prevent your pet from marking or spraying urine in the house.

Microchipping

A microchip is small (about the size of a grain of rice) and has a unique number embedded on it. When the unique number is registered online, it is then linked to the owner of the pet in an online database.

Why Microchip?
Microchip pet identification is used in cases when collars and ID tags have been lost. Some pets, especially cats, lose their collars frequently. However, the microchip can't be lost, and is often your best chance at getting your pet back. Also, if you choose to leave the U.S. with your pet, most countries require pets to have a microchip.
